Clinica Eliezar
Centro Cristiano de Salud Integral Sociedad Lucas ONG Inc.
Clinica Eliezar has been a work of love in process, first dreamed of 10 years ago and brought to fruition step by step by inspired willing workers. Mission groups including Northern Michigan Christian School and Project Canefire as well as others built up the facility, room by room and floor by floor. In April 2015, under the supervision of a local physician, Dr. Sylvia, who has been the driving force from the start, the clinic first opened its doors. Its mission is to provide medical care to people in a crowded and impoverished area outside of Santo Domingo from Monday through Saturday morning.
Even though Clinica Eliezar was open, much of the necessary medical equipment still was lacking. Project Canefire urgently requested donations -- which poured in. Canefire then sent Cadillac physician Dr. Glenn Verbrugge to purchase supplies from Rays of Hope in Grand Rapids, a warehouse that sends hospital supplies around the world.
Dr. Verbrugge "was like a kid in a candy store," scouting out appropriate equipment that subsequently was shipped to the Dominican Republic. A last minute bonus addition was an ultrasound machine that arrived the day before shipping and was added to the load as a surprise gift!
Praise the Lord for His faithfulness for more than a decade. The facilities include a kind and welcoming foyer, lab, pharmacy, ultrasound machine, x-ray machine, emergency rooms, beds, cribs, surgery table, and dental and optical offices, with operating rooms, overnight hospital rooms, kitchen and laundry facilities, etc. to follow. It's Dr. Sylvia's continuing dream that dorm rooms can be built on a third floor for visiting doctors and nurses who might be willing to donate their services for a few weeks or months at a time.
This is a place of peace, refuge, love, healing, and answers to prayers. Praise God for His leading, for Dr. Sylvia and her dedicated staff who share their love and skills so freely, and for every single person who worked diligently and with hope to make this dream a reality.
