An overview of Project Canefire's work for the 2020 mission trip:
*Completed 11 new water wells and checked on and repaired 100+ more in the circuit around Monte Plata. That brings to 136 the working hand-pump water wells in the DR, installed by Project Canefire over 31 years of service. These well parts are built and put together all year long in Northern Michigan by a group of dedicated volunteers and companies.
*Designed and constructed 20 benches for worship, to be used in local churches around Monte Plata, mostly at Columbo.
*Helped to build a church in Manolo, a first in this impoverished batey (village) with which PC has been working for more than 10 years, building 8 houses, installing and repairing a hand-pumped water well and setting up a pre-school.
*Distributed 12 new sewing machines and conducted small group teaching/sewing workshops to women and men from different churches -- who will in turn teach other people in their communities to sew. Repaired other sewing machines from years earlier.
*With the help of local church goers, helped to complete a block church in El Dean, providing funds and manpower for trusses and a roof.
*Restored a burnt house in Monte Plata with new trusses and roof, primed and painted walls, and gave funds for a restored bathroom.
*Provided home-improvement funds (based on recommendations of Pastors Noe, Bernardo, and Jonathan) for many families doing their own home repairs.
*Celebrated an awards ceremony for about 12 young Haitian men and women now attending university because of scholarship funds provided by donors to Project Canefire and interviewed about 10 new possible students.
------ Thank you to all donors, essential partners in this important work with our brothers and sisters in the Dominican Republic. Please continue to pray for and work for the restoration of His kingdom on earth for all of His children. Praise the Lord! -----
------ There is much more work to do! Please consider joining a team next year.
